OXFORD LS SHIRT
They Say - The HH® classic oxford shirt with just the right amount of detailing and quality that makes this a wardrobe staple.
- Cotton oxford
- Button down collar
- Chest pocket
- Pleat and loop at back
- Helly Hansen embroidery at bottom sleeve
We Say – Like the Fraser shirt and Chinos that I’ll talk about next, I took this Oxford shirt on my late spring tours around England and Greece, and have now been wearing it a lot in the brilliantly sunny summer we’ve been having in Toronto (it’s rarely been dropping below 25 degrees).
It’s got a great, classic look to it – it blends in wherever I go; bar, restaurant or sightseeing – and it doesn’t strictly need an iron after washing. Like most shirts it could do with one but I never take a travel iron with me and I don’t even have one at home! So all I do is wash the shirt, take it from the machine or sink and hang it out to dry. You can see the results in the photo above, a little creased perhaps but nothing that the style police will ever pull you over for.
It also deals very well with the heat, allowing me to breathe easily so sweat patches under the arms or on the back are not an issue.Â
So far I’ve had no issues with it at all and it’s been on the road with me being worn constantly for almost 5 months. It’s well made, robust and of a subtle, classy colour and cut. It’s a great travel and general lifestyle shirt, easily my favourite shirt at the moment. I recommend it.Â
They Say – A technical stain resistant and lightweight quick-dry shirt for outdoor adventures in a warm climate.
- Lightweight mechanical stretch polyester dobby
- 3M stain release and stain resistance finish
- Button down collar
- Expandable sun collar
- Two double chest pockets with button closure on flap and Velcro closure on upper pocket
- Drainage holes on chest pockets
- Ventilation back yoke with mesh lining
- Roll-up sleeve with button strap attachment
- Multiple reflective Helly Hansen printed logos
- UPF 50+
We Say – This shirt has a lot going for it. Firstly, it never creases past what you see in the photo above. And that’s after being rolled up and stuffed into a travel bag for hours. I think you’d have to work really hard to crease this shirt, so for me that makes a good start point for a great piece of travel kit.
Obviously the bright white colour might make you think it will stain easy. I mean, what meals or drinks wouldn’t stain it?! You’d only have to rest your elbows on the bar to pick up some beer marks, right? Well, not so. I haven’t had any big problems and the small bits of food I’ve dropped down my front haven’t stained at all. So I can say that the stain resistant finish actually works, very well.
It’s built for the summer, for sure. The back vents, the UPF 50+, the flip up suun collar and the buttons for holding the rolled up sleeves are all features I’ve appreciated often this year.
The only drawback, for me personally, is that the collar looks rather big on me. I’ve a fairly regular sizing so I’m not sure why this is. Not a big deal though really.
I think that this is more a day shirt that a night shirt. I use the Oxford for evenings out, mostly, and this for messing about on the beach, or just being around outside sightseeing. It’s extremely light, a perfect shirt to slip on when you retreat from the beach to the restaurant or bar at lunchtime.
They Say – Classic Helly Hansen cotton chinos for men. Beautifully fitting and comfortable summer trousers with unique Helly Hansen detailing and features. The chinos come in a wide range of colors to match your wardrobe.
- Micro peached cotton twill, 200 g/m²
- Zipped front fly with HH® button top closure
- Slant hip pockets
- Two back welt pockets
- Belt loops
- Helly Hansen logo embroidery on center back belt loop
- Garment washed
We Say – These chinos match excellently with both shirts, as well as most other shirts and polos that I have. The cut is, like the Oxford shirt, a classic style with a close fit around the hips and thighs leading into what feels like for me, almost a drainpipe style calf (although I’m a runner and have rather large calves so for you non runners the calf fitting might be regular). The most important points I have to mention are;
1/ They’ve kept their colour through countless washes, and they look great for casual or ‘best’ situations.Â
2/ Like the shirts, they don’t really need an iron after washing.Â
3/ The side pockets are good for putting hands in but not tight enough to keep keys or money safe. But there is a small pocket on the front right hand side that is large enough to keep a small key and banknotes/coins safe.Â
4/ They’re hardwearing; after almost 5 months of wear they’re still as good as they were new.Â
5/ They’re very comfy, even in the heat.
I like these chinos a lot, they’re proved themselves to be an invaluable part of my travel kit.
