dhb Classic Range – Autumn/Winter 2015/2016

dhb Classic Roubaix Long Sleeve Jersey - £45

They say…Warmth, comfort and versatility are what you’ll get from dhb’s Classic Roubaix Long Sleeve Jersey.

The ultimate in versatile all season performance

A staple of any rider’s wardrobe, a thermal jersey is a sound investment seeing you through autumn, winter and spring – easy to layer up with to suit almost any riding conditions. The dhb Classic Roubaix Long Sleeve Jersey is perfect in combination with tights, thermal base layer, gilets or jackets; a garment that is incredibly versatile and can be used to form the bedrock of your cold weather riding kit.

Warmth and comfort built in

The dhb Classic Roubaix Long Sleeve Jersey has been designed to keep you riding as tempratures drop. Using a warm and breathable, wicking polyester fleece fabric a warm micro climate is created. The fleece traps warm air while perspiration is transported away from the skin to keep you dry and comfortable. If you do find yourself too warm during harder efforts then you have the full length front zip to expel warm air and allow for extra air circulation.

An internal silicon gripper holds the hem in place when in your riding position as well as sealing the jersey effectively, keeping warm air in and cold air out.

Performance fit and features

dhb’s classic range is based on a performance fit. This is a close to the body fit to aid performance but designed to accommodate different body shapes. To keep you on the road you’ll find 3 vertical pockets – keeping all your ride essentials easy to hand – plus a secure zipped pocket for valuables and cafe stop money.

We say…I’ll admit that as someone from a running background I’m used to wearing as few layers as possible, so when I first started cycling it was a culture shock about the importance of layers when cycling –especially when cycling through cold autumn and winters. Admittedly when I first started testing this kit we were going through an especially mild autumn and I was surprised to find that despite the fact dhb advertise this jersey’s cold weather credentials, their use of comfortable materials meant I was able to wear this jersey on its own (using the zip for ventilation if I found myself too hot) and unlike other cycling tops, the sleeves on this top are actually soft enough to roll up giving you the option to make this a short-sleeved jersey when required – something which I’m always surprised by with other cycling jackets.

During my trial period I was testing the Petrol Blue colour long sleeved jersey and Burgundy colour jacket and the classic colour went really well together and offered a nice change from the usual bright blues and reds which you typically see in cycle clothing (and also offered a nice way to support my local football team ‘West Ham’ with an almost claret and blue styling!). The fit is also brilliant – I’m typically a size small in most run clothing but as I know cycle clothing tends to come up quite tight I opted for size medium and the fit really is great – even when worn over other layers once the temperature started to drop. It’s also worth pointing out that at £45 this Jersey is very competitively priced against most other brands while still retaining excellent quality (something dhb excels at as a brand) and at time of publication this jersey is on offer at Wiggle for just £27 which really is a steal!

Overall this is a great piece of kit suitable for all seasons, and the unique styling stands out perfectly from most typical cycling kit making it a great addition to any cyclist’s wardrobe at a very attractive price.

dhb Classic Softshell Windslam Roubaix Jacket – £65

They say…As autumn and winter rolls around the Classic Softshell Windslam Roubaix Jacket provides you all the windchill protection and warmth needed. An ideal addition to your layering system

Perfect climate control for multi-season riding

Partnering fleece lined, wind-resistant panels with lighter-weight and breathable fleece panels this jacket creates a perfectly warm and dry climate for your core.

When riding the fleece lined, wind-resistant front and sleeves act to effectively protect and insulate the areas most susceptible to windchill. Then along the back and sleeves, a warm and breathable wicking fleece is used to both insulate and manage the moisture which can build up between the skin and the garment, even on colder days. It is this combination of fabrics that creates a jacket that is so versatile for multi season riding – use as an outer layer on milder days or mid layer as temperatures drop.

We also know you want to be seen as light levels fade so reflective dhb logos plus reflective details on the upper arm and rear pocket seams help raise your profile to other road users.

Fit for the Road Cyclist

Fitting close to the body to support the road cycling position, the Classic Softshell Windslam Roubaix is perfect for any level of cyclist, from new comers to professionals. It features an internal elasticated silicone gripper on the hem line and elasticated cuffs to prevent wind entering the jersey, and an internal chin guard for added support and comfort.

Generous Kit Carrying Space

You’ll find three vertical rear pockets giving you plenty of space for stowing all your ride essentials, whether that’s a tube, nutrition, multi tool or a packable jacket. For keeping valuables safe and secure there’s also an additional rear zipped pocket – no more worrying about losing door or car keys.

We say…As the temperature dropped throughout December I started to use my dhb Windslam jacket along with the long-sleeved jersey and without a doubt these two pieces of kit were made for each other. At first glance you could be mistaken for thinking they’re the same piece of kit as two different colour options, but in actual fact the jacket has a number of additional features making it ideal for chilly rides when the mercury drops including a windchill defence softshell, wind resistant membrane on the front panel and fleece lined sleeves, lightweight breathable polyester fleece back and underarm panels and a fleece lined collar which comes slightly higher than on the jersey. In practice all of these features made for an incredibly cosy ride and even when being attacked by the winds of storm Imogen while riding through the wide open Essex country lanes, I still felt nice and warm while she attempted to steal my bike from underneath me! Of course this all comes at a price with the jacket’s RRP set at £20 more than the jersey (£65 compared to £45), but again this is incredibly competitively priced compared to similar products from other brands.

If I do have one complaint it’s that despite these windchill features the jacket isn’t actually waterproof, so if there’s any risk of rain it’s not the best choice for a long ride meaning you’ll need to also take an extra waterproof layer with you. However, with the generously sized pockets on both the jacket and jersey this is definitely an option as although the pockets on the jacket are slightly deeper than those on the jersey, both pieces of kit offer plenty of room in all 3 for even the most cautious rider with plenty of space for food, a small pump, inner tubes, puncture repair kit, tools, extra layers and whatever else you may choose to carry (and trust me – I’m a cautious rider so I’ve tested that theory out)! It’s also worth noting the zipper pocket on both the jersey and jacket is surprisingly spacious with plenty of room for all modern large smartphones - for example: my Nexus 6 fit perfectly so it would probably also hold an iPhone 6 plus or a Samsung Galaxy Note without any issues.

In combination both of these pieces of kit make for excellent autumn and winter gear and when combined with a lightweight waterproof jacket such as dhb’s ASV eVent waterproof jacket (www.wiggle.co.uk/dhb-asv-event-waterproof-jacket) I feel you’ll have a perfect race setup which will see you through all seasons.
