Tone Tee Vest

They Say - Revolutionary NEW body toning fitwear specifically engineered for men who want to look slimmer, trimmer and leaner. Tone Tee’s clever, perfectly zoned, core stabilizing compression panels flatten the mid-section, eliminate the appearance of love handles, firm up those pecs and even streamline back fat…giving you the appearance of a visibly slimmer, more athletic-looking physique. The nylon, elastance make up of the tone tee allows air to pass through more easily, meaning you don’t sweat. The actual open knit pattern is our exclusive design – patent pending, which means that it is unique. With its seamless fabric and stylish V neck design, Tone Tee is virtually invisible and undetectable under clothing. No-one will know it’s there. Wear Tone Tee under your clothes for total comfort, support and the appearance of upper body definition…all day, every day.

Tone tee

We Say - When I first received this product and saw it was only available in sizes Large and Extra Large I was worried I wouldn’t be able to offer a decent review as although a few years back I wore size Large clothing, my new-found love of running has gradually slimmed me down over the years and I now wear size Small!

However, as the weather has turned chilly lately I decided to test this top’s claims of ‘built-in temperate control breathe-in technology’ by wearing it as a base layer under a shirt.  I was surprised to find that the fit was snug even for me and seemed to hold my body in the places you’d expect for slimming clothing (chest, stomach and sides) so I can see how this would do the job if you were trying to make these areas appear slimmer.  As for the temperature control, there’s no doubt I was warmer when wearing the vest and it was so comfortable I forgot I was wearing after a while, although this may be a different story if you’re larger bodied and feeling the effect of the compression all day long!

One minor complaint was the fact the neck-line and shoulders had thick stitching so it wasn’t quite as seamless as described, and it personally felt like it was obvious I was wearing a vest under my shirt although I suppose that could’ve been because I knew it was there so I knew to look for the seams.

Vitamin shot

We Say - I was surprised to see this product wasn’t advertised as a caffeine shot – especially considering it contained almost as much caffeine as 2 cans of energy drinks which will usually contain 75mg of caffeine and each of these tiny bottles pack in 120mg.  It was also interesting to see that it’s caffeine content was only mentioned on the back in the ‘small print’ along with the obligatory warning how ‘high caffeine products aren’t suitable for children, pregnant or breastfeeding women’; I personally feel the high caffeine content should be made clearer on the packaging.  However as someone who pops a Thermoblaster capsule containing 153mg of caffeine first thing each morning I can definitely see the benefits of this product for athletes and I was interested to see how this compared to my usual routine.

I decided to test the shot in two situations; first I decided to replace my usual start-of-day caffeine hit with an Energy Vitamin Shot to perk myself up mid-morning in the office, and straight away I was impressed with the taste (the bottle says Acai berry although I’d say it tasted more like a gentle cranberry flavour) and the fact I wasn’t left with a nasty aftertaste which you can sometimes get with caffeine products.  A few hours later I hadn’t fallen asleep at my desk, so test number one was a success!

As a regular runner I’ll sometimes eat an energy gel for a quick sugar rush before a short race so test number 2 involved drinking an Energy Vitamin Shot before an early morning 5k event.  Although the shot didn’t lead to a personal best in that particular event, I definitely felt I had plenty of energy throughout the event and finished feeling good so I’d say it did what I’d hoped it would.  It’s also worth noting the shot contains vitamins and amino acids so the product does seem like a great choice for athletes so if you’re after something a bit different, I’d definitely recommend giving the product a try to see how it works for you.

Rehab London Back to Matte

They Say - Back To Matte (35ml) Regardless of age, the male sebaceous glands produce oil throughout the day to cool the body temperature. This oil can make the face look very shiny. Back To Matte calms those sebacous glands but is sheer enough in its gel texture that it will not block the pores and still allow skin to breathe unlike other products that block the pores and cause acne or blackheads.

Back To Matte is to be applied to the face as needed to ensure a shine free complexion. Best used after the face is blotted with a tissue or washed.

The Science:

  •  For use when needed throughout the day and night
  •  Ideal for use on face and scalp
  •  Absorbs and controls excess oil and perspiration on contact without stripping natural moisture
  •  Eliminates unsightly breakthrough shine for hours

Back to Matte

We Say - I have to admit this product confused me at first as despite the fact I consider myself fairly metrosexual – I try to keep myself well groomed and moisturise every morning and after every gym session – I’ve never encountered an anti-shine gel before so this was an entirely new experience for me!

At first I used this product instead of moisturiser after my morning shower and the effect seemed to be satisfactory as my skin still felt supple after application and not like when I forget to moisturise and my skin feels like it is being stretched to breaking point. However at first I didn’t notice a huge effect on the shininess of my skin.  I also asked my partner and she didn’t notice a major difference although this may be down to my particular skin type as I suffer from oily skin, although I would’ve thought that fact would make this an ideal product for me?

With this particular product I feel it may take a while to see the effects of general day to day use and I wonder just how long the small 35ml bottle would last when being used throughout the day as per the instructions. One bonus of the small bottle is that the size makes it ideal for keeping in your gym bag and the gel is odourless and easy to apply.

Remescar silicone stretch mark scar cream

They Say - Why use Remescar Stretch Marks? Remescar stretch marks is an innovative silicone based cream which improves and corrects all types of stretch marks.

A clinical study performed by an independent laboratory showed that it reduces up to 50% of stretch marks severity on stomach, hips and legs in just 28 days!*

By releasing a long lasting and thin silicone barrier it will not only cover the affected skin but also protect the skin and moderate inflammation. It will lead to an excellent integration of the cream into the skin as well. In addition, the moisturizing and reconstructive ingredients will generate immediate and long term hydration of the skin, and optimize the skin’s natural moisture balance.

Thanks to these properties and to its medical device technology, Remescar stretch marks will also reinforce and visually improve the skin surface.

What are stretch marks?

Stretch marks or striae are a form of scarring caused by tearing in the dermal layer of the skin. The most common sites to be affected by stretch marks include the abdomen, breasts, thighs, or buttocks.

Stretch marks are often the result of the rapid stretching of the skin associated with weight gain (e.g. pregnancy, obesity) or rapid growth (e.g. puberty).

*The most frequent score, based on the global evaluation of the panel according to a clinical 4-pointscoring assessment of number, size and colour.

We Say - This is the only thing out of this batch of Sport Essential product that I was unable to use due to my lack of stretch marks. However I can definitely see the benefit in offering this as a product for those involved in sport and fitness, as a great deal of people who have lost weight rapidly through sudden change in diet and excessive exercise can find themselves with stretch marks due to the sudden change of body shape, and this seems like an ideal product for people in that situation.

Independent reviews online also seemed to rate the product very highly with people commenting how the cream felt smooth and had a great effect when used, not just during pregnancy but also by people who had lost weight or who had experienced growth spurts, so although I don’t currently require this product it’ll definitely be kept in my bathroom ready for when my partner and I decide to try for a baby!

We Say - If there’s one particular product I was seriously impressed by while reviewing this set of products, it was these tiny pots of magic!  Our sample pack contained 4 pots, each containing various natural ingredients.   An orange pot offered to treat cuts, scratches and grazes, purple treated burns and sunburn, pink was for bumps and bruises and green dealt with cold sores, spots, bites and fungal conditions.

As someone who has suffered poor skin for years I’m sceptical about these ‘miracle cures’ and have tried a number of products, chemical and natural, to attempt to improve my complexion, none of which have worked.

I decided to test out the green ‘Tea Tree’ potion first and I was very impressed with the effect.  After a short while the areas where I’d applied the salve didn’t seem as red as they had beforehand, and the spots themselves seemed to go down quicker than if I hadn’t applied anything to them, so this particular product is definitely one I’ll be purchasing in the near future when my tub runs out!

I also regularly complete obstacle races so it wasn’t long until I had a chance to test out the orange ‘Arnica rescue salve’ and pink ‘Calendula and comfrey rescue salve’ following a particularly rough 10 mile event which had left me with bruised shins, scraped wrists and one particularly nasty zig-zag welt along my inner thigh!

One annoying thing about the arnica salve for bruises was that it couldn’t be used on broken skin which ruled out treating my bruises as they were all surrounded by cuts or scrapes, however the calendula and comfrey salve did a great job of clearing up the smaller scrapes by the following day, and even the zig-zag welt had almost disappeared within a few days meaning I could treat the huge purple and yellow bruise which had appeared the day after the event!  Unfortunately the salves weren’t’ quite strong enough for some of my bigger cuts, although over a week later they still haven’t gone so I think it was too much to expect the salve to clean those up.

I was unable to test the Lavender rescue salve as I haven’t burnt myself and due to the time of year there isn’t exactly enough sun for there to be any risk of sunburn, however judging by the effectiveness of the other tins I will be taking the purple ‘lavender rescue salve’ with me next time I go away and I have every confidence it’ll be valuable when needed.
